Once upon a time, there was a curious boy named Davey Wavey. He liked to try new things, push his boundaries and get into mischief. Sometimes, he was a very naughty boy.

Less glamorously, they also accurately describe last Thursday afternoon when, after finding an unused butt plug in my underwear drawer, I set out on a well-intention but ultimately ill-fated anal adventure.

In school, I wasn’t an overachiever – but, I always did the minimum. And that meant doing my homework. It may not have been the angelic orgasm of Beau Reed – who, in the video, ejaculates with no hands – but it was an experience uniquely my own, and it was an experiment. Those experiments enable us to learn about ourselves, our desires, our partners and the world around us. And the results of those experiments guide our journey of sexual exploration and future decisions.
Last Thursday, my journey of sexual exploration yielded some interesting data. Sure, I learned that a smaller butt plug might be a more suitable option. But I also learned that when you try things at home, results may vary – and to have a sense of humor about sex. And that, if at first you don’t succeed, immortalize the evidence by recording a podcast with your friends.
